Rough Weather and Big Kings

  • We have been catching more kings lately and filling the freezer. This is a lovely king–about 20 pounds and chrome-bright.

Two days ago the wind came up from the west and northwest about 30-35 knots. When we woke up in the morning the tide was out which narrowed the channel and calmed the water. We headed out and as the tide came in and the river widened, the surf built and made it very hard to fish. Although its nice to fish from small boats near shore, it also means we have to do everything manually right on the water. Just tying up to our net’s inside buoy is was sometimes a 20 minute ordeal. If the fishing had been better the rough weather might have been more tolerable, but the fish did not come come up river in any numbers that day.
